A Funny Roatán Story

Have you ever stayed at the worst rated hotel?

I have, in one of the most beautiful places in the world. You might be wondering, well how the hell did that happen? Aren’t you experienced in travel, with the hotel world? I mean you did work in the industry for 10 years.

This is what happens when you allow someone else to make your travel arrangements with a travel agent you’ve never met. C’mon how bad could it have possibly been?

Well, I am here to tell you the “all inclusive resort,” called Henry Morgan on the Island of Roatán might be the furthest thing from a resort that I’ve ever experienced. Let’s begin with the deal. This was a 3 night, 4 day stay the total was $700 USD including our flight from El Salvador. Now we all know inflation is WILD right now, so this was a deal we didn’t want to pass up. I naively did not ask what hotel we would be staying at.

Upon arrival, they sent us straight to lunch which was in a large cafeteria setting with no AC, in the summer, in the Caribbean. I went ahead and made a large salad and had some pasta. Again that evening, the same meal was served, LOL. So I ate another salad.

I would regret this decision in the morning when I awoke to the worst stomach cramps. I thought if I went to the bathroom it would pass and we would go on with our day. We intentionally woke up before sunrise so we could head to the beach before the hoards of other tourists got there. Well, long story short my ass did not make it to the beach. I made it to the dining area where I was crippled with stomach cramps.

There was a bathroom there, definitely not made for a large 5’7 woman, and you guessed it with no AC. So there I sat with my bathing suit around my ankles, knees hitting the door, and sweating my f*cking ass off and well you know, shitting my brains out.

Of course, right around the corner was the little sundries shop but that wasn’t opening for another hour and half. God, I needed Imodium and I needed it an hour ago. It took about half an hour for me to get back to our room, where luckily we had hot water and AC.

I was able to get some medicine and a special drink of soda water, salt, and lime for my stomach. I definitely didn’t let the food poisoning get me down, I took a nap, got that medicine and drink down and carried on.
