A COMPLETE GUIDE TO MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA FROM A LOCAL CONCIERGE

I am so excited to share my home with you! I started my career in hospitality in 2012 when I moved back home to Monterey. I quickly found my passion for being a concierge at a 4-star hotel. It’s with great pleasure that I share my favorite places, eats, and small businesses with you!

Located just 2 hours (2.5 with traffic) south of San Francisco, it’s an easy drive. You can also fly into San Jose or our local regional Monterey Airport. While you can get around without a car, I would highly recommend renting a car if you’re here for an extended amount of time.

HOME SWEET HOME, MONTEREY

where i would stay

After working in the hospitality industry to 10+ years in the area, I’ve definitely learned a ton. I thought I would break it down by type of accommodations.

A luxury experience, The Monterey Plaza Hotel & SpaThis hotel sits at the end of Cannery Row and is within walking distance of both the heart of Cannery Row and downtown Monterey. They have a wonderful restaurant, Schooners, right on the water. This hotel will definitely cost a pretty penny and boasts an impressive 290 rooms. If you’re going to stay here, book an ocean view room, and if you’re really looking for a treat, go for a corner suite.

Great location that doesn’t break the bank, Casa Munras Hotel & SpaWhen we lived in Big Sur and wanted a town day or weekend, we would stay here. I absolutely love this hotel. As someone who has worked in hotels for nearly 15 years, cleanliness is everything to me, and Casa Munras has always been impeccably clean. The staff is consistently warm and welcoming, and the location is fantastic. It’s within walking distance of downtown, and it’s easy to rent a bike and enjoy the recreational trail.

Bed and Breakfast, Old Monterey InnI just love a good old bed and breakfast. There’s something special about the intimacy and the chance to mingle with other guests. And honestly, who doesn’t love breakfast included?

when to visit

When should you visit? Well, Monterey is beautiful all year-round. I would almost say it’s like eternal autumn weather, and who doesn’t love autumn weather?! Monterey’s warmest months of the year are typically September & October. It is centrally located in California, so keep in mind weekends are PACKED! If you’re able to get away during the week, I highly recommend visiting during the week.
